LRC has been engaged by our prestigious client in Nigeria to support their ground breaking renewables project, one of the largest of its kind in Africa. We are looking to source a high calibre expatriate Project Director to lead the project, working closely with a Nigerian counterpart responsible for government liaison.

Core Mandate

  1. Provide project management and technical leadership across all project phases and

components.

  1. Direct a multinational team of 300+ engineers and project execution specialists including owner employees, vendor, PMC and EPC contractor staff.
  2. Ensure flawless execution from Pre-FEED through to commissioning and handover.
  3. Maintain strict compliance with international engineering, quality, HSSE and Social
  4. Performance (SP) standards (ISO 9001, Equator Principles, IFC Performance
  5. Standards, World Bank EHS, IFRS/ISSB, etc.) and industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Financing and Financial Close Management:

  1. Lead all aspects of project financing, including negotiations with multilateral lenders and commercial banks.
  2. Assist with the execution funding plans (debt/equity) and support all funding and financing initiatives.
  3. Ensure compliance with lender requirements, including Equator Principles, IFC
  4. Performance Standards, ESIA, HSSE and SP), monitoring and reporting, commercial and technical due diligence.
  5. Oversight financial modelling, risk allocation, and credit agreement negotiations.
  6. Coordinate with legal teams to finalize project documentation and covenants for financial close.

2. Technical Leadership and Project Management Oversight:

  1. Provide strategic direction for the integrated and phased development of hydropower,power transmission lines, solar PV, hydrogen electrolysis, e-Methanol facilities and marine export.
  2. Review and approve Pre-FEED, FEED studies, PMC, EPC contracts, and technical specifications.
  3. Ensure compliance with all applicable international standards.
  4. Manage lender-appointed independent engineers and technical advisors.
  5. Organise project peer reviews, interim reviews, audits and other assurance activities.
  6. Ensure that they are defined in the Project Assurance Plan (PAP) and effectively executed with findings tracked and closed out in a timely manner.

3. Project Execution and Delivery:

  1. Lead and execute good project governance and ensure it is effectively integrated within the corporate governance.
  2. Lead the execution of project strategies, philosophies and plans to achieve established KPI's, goals and objectives.
  3. Lead the execution of commercial structures, contracting and tendering strategy and project management frameworks.
  4. Ensure open, fair and competitive tendering processes in accordance with the approved tendering strategy.
  5. Ensure the identification, assessment and treatment of technical, economic, commercial, organizational and political risks at the project level and ensure that identified corporate risks are raised to the appropriate organizational level for treatment.
  6. Lead the selection, evaluation, and assessment process to ensure the creation of value.
  7. Direct PMC and EPC contractors, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery across all project components.
  8. Implement robust project controls (cost, schedule, quality, HSSE and SP, and risk).
  9. Lead fabrication, construction, commissioning, testing, and handover to operations.

4. Stakeholder and Lender Coordination:

  1. Serve as primary point of contact for financial institutions, ECAs, investors, and government agencies (progress reporting, audits, and compliance).
  2. Present to investment committees and lender technical advisors.
  3. Manage relationships with off-takers, grid operators, and regulatory bodies.

5. Team Leadership and Governance:

  1. Build and lead a multinational project team (engineering, finance, legal, construction)
  2. Implement governance frameworks aligned with lender requirements.
  3. Report to the Board and Steering Committee on project milestones, risks, and financial performance.
  4. Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer status preferred.
  5. Advanced degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  6. PMP or equivalent project management certification.
